Bilbao, the Basque country, northern Spain. Not so long ago a sleeping port and industrial town, allegedly with little charm. But the mayor and the citizens had visions – and put them to work. Many couldn’t believe their ears when they heard that the new  Guggenheim Museum would be built in their town, partly under a bridge. And there it is, beyond doubt one of the most amazing buildings in the world. Says TFF co-founder Christina Spannar, upon visiting it: “The memory of the museum, especially seen from the hill in moonlight when it looks like a silvery boat from a fairy tale, is something to cherish and be inspired by. The surface is covered by thin titan plates that look a bit like fish scales. As a small boy, Frank Gehry its architect, often went with his grandmother to the fish market; upon returning he played with the carps she...

Greenland – the world’s largest island, a continent of its own with only 57.000 inhabitants. I visited it for the first time in May 2005. I flew across the inland ice to Nuuk, the tiny capital with some 14.000 inhabitants. I was overwhelmed by the pride and kindness of everyone I met as well as by the unique natural beauty. So this Greenland series is presented here in the hope you enjoy it and are stimulated to visit Greenland – about which you may read more here. Finally, if you want to use a picture or have questions, comments or suggestions, please write to us at tff@transnational.live. The first series were uploaded in October 2005. We will post more series as they are created. So do come back and see more pictures from this breathtakingly beautiful island. Greenland & Nuuk – the series The Ice Fjord – Ilulisat Disco Bay Mt. With these pictures I want you to get a sense of the simple fact that Iraq is not only Saddam Hussein, weapons and wars. Iraq is 24 million fellow human beings. It has been a civilisation for some 7,000 years. It has a distinct, rich culture; it has norms, and – above all – it has pride. I have never visited a country where there is so much kindness and hospitality – a genuine welcoming of the stranger. During the four weeks I spent in Baghdad, Babylon and Basra, I never felt insecure or had the feeling that I could not speak with the locals. Neither did I sense that they were afraid to speak with me as a foreigner. The future belongs to the children, doesn’t it? Iraq has a young population; about half the people are under 16 years old. They are innocent, they have a right to...
