Efter 7 år er TV2s og Politikens behandling af Syrien stadig under al kritik

Det er mere end 7 år siden volden brød ud i Syrien, i Daraa. Det er det, TV2 vil fortælle os om hér. Og tidligere har fortalt hér. Skønt de mange år har man desværre ikke lært den lektie, der er så enkel:

At volden kun er symptom på underliggende konflikter.

At det det handler om ikke er volden/krigshandlingerne – men det der har fået volden til at bryde ud.

At man kun kan komme frem til en fredelige fremtid hvis man forstår hvad konflikterne handler om.

At medier, der kun fokuserer på volden men ikke kerer sig det mindste om årsagerne til den, gør volden meget mere “naturlig” og “uundgåelig.” I det aktuelle tilfælde stiller TV2 sig helt klart på de unge mænds side, der med våben i hånd bekæmper deres egen regering. De fremstilles som helt, der har startet krigen og – ja, hvordan har de det nu med det efter at samfundet er brudt sammen, 400 måske er blevet dræbt og millioner er flygtet.

De fremstilles med sympati som frihedskæmpere imod et diktatur. Den samme gamle forenkling som intet har med virkeligheden at gøre – hverken  i 2011 eller idag.

 

Voldpornografi versus kyndig konflikanalyse

Hvis en læge ikke kan se forskellen på symptomer og årsager er hun eller han ikke en læge, du eller jeg ville gå til, vel? En læge der ikke – med sin uddannelse og kundskab – stiller en diagnose, skaber en prognose (hvad sker hvis vi gør dette og hvad sker hvis vi gør dette istedet etc) og endelig har et forslag til behandling så patienten kan blive frisk og rask igen – ja, så burde han eller hun sættes fra bestillingen.

Hvorfor accepterer vi mon så denne symptom-diskussion når det gælder millioner af mennesker når vi ikke ville det hvad når det enkelte individ?

Fordi det er nu sådan det altid har været i medierne: Fokus er på volden, volden og dens effekter og dens ofre. Alt det kan man a) tage billeder af og b) det kræver ingen kundskab. Man siger endog at c) det “sælger”.

Det er derfor vi har krigsreportager men ingen konfliktreportager eller fredsreportager.

 

Lidt om konflikterne under volden i Syrien

I det konkrete tilfælde Syrien kan man siger at konflikterne er uendeligt komplekse – mange aktører, en ustyrlige masse problemer, et langt og et kortere historisk perspektiv, lokalt, national, regional og internationalt.

De handler om historie, politik, kultur, økonomi, miljø, religion, menneskerettigheder, autoritære styreformer versus en eller anden form for demokrati, etc.

Åh jo, det kræver at nogen læser et par bøger – om både Syrien, regionen og Vestens indflydelse i Mellemøsten og om konfliktanalyse og konfliktløsning.

Den som ville kunne nok have tilegnet sig det nødvendige på 7 dage eller 7 uger – for ikke at tale om 7 år. Men altså ikke i medierne som de er flest. Og altså heller ikke på TV2.

Der findes faktisk ingen undskyldninger for at levere et så usselt materiale.

De forenklede sort-hvis billeder, der intet har med virkeligheden at gøre, kan naturligvis valse rundt uden at blive pillet ned fordi så relativt få selv har rejst ud og set tingene på nært hold – eller fået lov til af højere myndigheder at skrive historier fra konfliktområder, der afviger på ét eller flere punkter fra den store forkromede, alment vedtagne vestlige historie/plot angående “sandheden” om Syrien:

Det er den, der vil have os til at tro at alt handler om, kan føres tilbage til, ham diktatoren al-Assad. Han er så forfærdelig at han bør fjernes  – hvad vesten og dens allierede gjorde allerede den 12 december 2012 – 12-12-12, let at huske – i et dekret fra et møde i Marrakesh hvor man oprettede et syrisk nationalt råd som – uden at nogen var blevet spurgt i Syrien – derpå blev kaldt den eneste legitime repræsentant for det syriske folk!

Sådan lærer man andre hvad demokrati er…

 

Hvad er det for eksempel man aldrig hører noget om?

Journalisterne har aldrig brudt sig om at læse lidt om historien, ikke mindst Vestens kolonialisme og interventionism efter det Ottomanske Imperiums fald. De har formemntlig ikke hørt om Syke-Picot?

De føler intet behov for at vide lidt om de sociologiske spændinger i det syriske samfund – og dets klassestruktur. Eller om CIA’s kup i 1949. Eller om det årtier lange krav fra Vestens side om at der skulle gå en pipeline med olie og gas tværs over Syriens territorium. De er bekvemt – opportunt – uvidende om den økologiske katastrofe, der gik forud for krigen – med de enorme spændinger der opstod som følge af at millioner flygtede fra tørke på landet ind til byerne.

De aner intet om at det blev officiel amerikansk politik omkring 5 år før volden brød ud i Daraa at USA skulle de-stabilisere Syrien og dets regering og ledelse.

De har formentlig aldrig hørt at denne slagter på toppen, der morer sig med at “slå sine egne ihjel” og smide tøndebomber og kemikalier rundt omkring, accepterede at tage imod yderligere 2 millioner flygtning fra det Irak, som også Danmark har været med til at smadre – på toppen af en allerede eksisterende halv million palestinensere?

Hvor mange (få) er det lige EU med over 500 millioner har kunnet finde ud af at vise lidt medmenneskelighed? Fra de krige EU/NATO-lande og USA har ført og som har skabt den største part af flygtningestrømmene?

Den gravende journalist, der nok har hørt om “research” på sin uddannelse har iie nysgerrighed til at spørge hvordan det mon kan være at Bashar al-Assad var præsident i 11 år inden han en morgen i marts 2011 sætter sig op i sengen og siger til sin kone: Fra idag skal jeg slå vort eget folk ihjel, så mange jeg kan komme afsted med! (Send mig gerne nummeret på den psykiatriker, der lige kan forklare at en reformistist øjenlæge bliver en massemorder over en nat).

Og sådan kan vi blive ved.

Er dette et forsvar for nogen i denne helvedes krig? Naturligvis ikke – undertegende forsvarer aldrig vold når bedre muligheder findes. Men det er vigtigt at forstå at man godt kan forklare – også i vore medier og dermed bedrive folkeoplysning – uden at dét er det samme som at forsvare.

 

Opportun uvidenhed med konsekvenser

Vi må formode at journalister ikke véd noget om alle disse interessant ting – om de underliggende konflikter – for hvis de gjorde er det jo helt uacceptabelt og nærmest fake news at skrive som man gør på TV2.

Værre er det med senior-skribenter som Anders Jerichow på den engang fredsrespekterende Politiken. I artiklen “45.000 syrere på vild flugt: Assads militær vender tilbage til oprørets vugge. Det syriske militær vender tilbage til provinsbyen Dara’a, hvor oprøret mod Assad-diktaturet begyndte for syv år siden. Militæret får nu luftstøtte af Rusland og hjælp af soldater fra Iran og Libanon” gentages den samme totale uvidenhed om underliggende konflikter – og Daraa kaldes “oprørets vugge” og “konfliktens udgangspunkt”.

Af artiklen kan man forstå at Syrien kun er en borgerkrig. At landet ikke som andre lande har ret til at forsvare sit territorium iflg FN-Deklarationens Artikel 51 om retten til selvforsvar. Man formidler – endnu engang – historien om de bevidste, bestialske militære operationer mod civile områder – uden at fortæller at det er dér RIOTs (Rebels, Insurgents, Opposition and Terrorists) foretrækker at operere og bruge civile som menneskelig skjolde.

Og man forstår to ting til: Iran og Rusland, der er de eneste der i folkeretslig forstand befinder sig legitimt i Syrien fordi de er der på invitation af “regimet,” er de dumme og onde mens de vestligt støttede RIOTs er de gode.

Og de allerbedste er naturligvis Israel. Jerichow glemmer kun lige at fortælle sine læsere at Golan-højderne er besatte områder i strid med alle FN-beslutninger, at Israel hundredvis af gange har bombet inde i Syrien og støtter RIOT-folk.

Ja, gid det hele bare var så enkelt!

Og tænk hvis medier ville erkende sine – helt naturlige – begrænsninger eftersom man jo ikke kan være eksperter på alting og af og til ville opsøge viden i bøger, på Internet og hos en bred ekspertice i stedet for at have nogle få opinionsdannere operere under dække af at være neutrale nyhedsformidlere.

For opinionsjournalistik behøves ingen research eller viden, kun den rette – gruppe – tænkning og gentagelse af de samme platityder år ud og år ind med brug af kun vestlige kilder – skønt vi lever i en tid hvor også Vesten i dén grad har opgraderet sit propagandaapparat.

For ordentlig journalistik kræves der derimod en vis minimumsviden, en kritisk holdning og lidt civilcourage til at gennemskue ens egen sides løgne.

For i krig lyver alle, alrig kun de andre…

Der er krise nok i dagens verden. Een af de væsentligste er udenrigsjournalistikkens.

Idag er den den vigtigste enkeltbarriere mod at forstå vor verden.
