AniaK
, I had the great pleasure of being Ania K’s guest on her YouTube Channel. Here is a link to it – and I want you to use the link to access it on YouTube and not here. The amusing thing is that it’s been viewed by 11,000 people in a few days, and less than a week later, there are 160 comments, 99,99 % positive about the whole thing. I note a frequent comment from Ania’s viewers: Where have you been hiding, Jan? How come I did not hear about him before and that sort of “we never heard about him…” comments. This is striking after having been the co-founder and director of the Transnational Foundation since 1986 – and quite active in doing research, on-the-ground conflict mitigation work and having written thousands of articles, book chapters and comments. But I’ve heard it before and here are some reasons: One,...

Jan Oberg February 6, 2024 Regrettably, the world’s allegedly most prestigious prize has been awarded to many who did not qualify according to the will of Alfred Nobel. I want to direct your attention to the most important book written about the peace deception called the Nobel Peace Prize. In his last meticulously researched book, “The Real Nobel Peace Prize. A Squandered Opportunity to Abolish War,” my friend and TFF Associate Fredrik Heffermehl (1938-2023) showed that only 36 out of 134 awards would qualify according to Nobel’s clearly anti-militarist intentions. Here is how Nobel himself formulated, in his will, that this prize should go “to the person who has done the most or best to advance fellowship among nations, the abolition or reduction of standing armies, and the establishment and promotion of peace congresses” and that this prize for the “champions of peace” should be awarded “by a committee of...

8,”sizeSlug”:”large”,”linkDestination”:”none”} –> I’m grateful to be given the opportunity to think back on the dissolution conflicts and wars of the 1990s and reflect on what it was NATO illegal bombings in the spring of 1999 – when I was there under the bombs – turned out later to have set in motion into the Second Cold War. Also, it was indeed an honour to participate in this world-renowned daily’s 120th anniversary. It’s the oldest daily in the Balkans. I shall participate in a commemorative conference in Belgrade in March 2024 when it is 25 years ago, NATO committed its crimes and began its out-of-area – and out-of-Treaty – activities, from which there is a straight line to the foolish NATO expansion and attempts to get NATO into Ukraine and Ukraine into NATO. I’d like to direct the reader’s attention toward TFF’s study – 2000+ A4 equivalent and probably the largest...

Becomes a TFF Associate in December 2023 Ali Akbar Alikhani was born in Iran in 1968 and serves as a Professor at the Faculty of World Studies at the University of Tehran, in the field of Islamic political thought, peace studies, ethics and justice. A part of Dr. Alikhani’s scholarly works is dedicated to the field of “peace and negation of violence”. He established the permanent secretariat of the annual international conferences on “Peace and Conflict Resolution” at the University of Tehran in 2017. So far, he has managed to organise four of these conferences. The first conference was held on April 29–30, 2019, and the second one on November 23 – 24, 2020. The third and fourth conferences were held October 18-20, 2021, and May 29-30, 2023, at the University of Tehran. Jan Oberg December 9, 2023 Today, Ivana Nikolic Hughes, President of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation, NAPF, sent us this message: “It is with a profound sense of loss that I write to inform you that David Krieger, co-founder and our beloved President Emeritus, passed away peacefully at his home on December 7, 2023.  Our determination to carry on David’s legacy through NAPF and beyond is even stronger. For me personally, it will be impossible to ever fill his shoes, but deeply meaningful to at least try to do so.  The family has written a beautiful obituary that you can read here.  Also, as a reminder of David’s many, many, many accomplishments, contributions, and more, please see here.   In the coming months, there will be opportunities to celebrate David’s life and example, and we will keep you posted on them. In sympathy, Ivana Ivana Nikolić Hughes, Ph.D.President, Nuclear Age Peace Foundation...

As soon as possible, we shall stop working with PayPal and shall soon ask our supporters to switch to another money transfer service. Here is the story. The Transnational Foundation, TFF is exclusively people-financed. Our supporters send their sums via PayPal. These payments are existentially necessary for TFF. Over several years, it has worked fine. PayPal has many positive features and generally works well. However, my experience with one aspect is so negative that I find it reasonable and justified to share it with people who may be in or run into the same situation. This is also to explain to TFF supporters why they got a message from PayPal that we do not receive their donations for the time being and why, in 2024, we shall leave PayPal behind. Further, we consumers and clients often come out small and powerless in our struggles with huge corporative bureaucracies – their...

“Mops And More” © Jan Oberg 2023 Jan Oberg October 20, 2023 I assume that most readers here know me as a peace and conflict researcher and as co-founder and director of the Transnational Foundation for Peace and Future Research, TFF. However, since 2009, I’ve also worked as an art photographer, done projects, and arranged almost 30 exhibitions in my studio here in Lund, Sweden. See more on Oberg PhotoGraphics. I grew up with contemporary art; it’s always been an essential, joyful interest of mine. And in 2002-2003, I found out that I could reach people not only with texts but also with images. Back then, I went on fact-finding in Iraq and interviewed some 160 people at all levels and also took photos with an early digital low-resolution camera – of people, cafées, nature, streets, children, cultural places, museums and… life in general, nothing special. It was merely snapshots...

TFF Associate and more… Luna Rossa: Sacred Blood, Cycle Wisdom – an art journal and peace offering – publication. Here is the pre-order campaign and free online events on feminine health & power themes with a deep cyclical understanding of how inner and outer peace can combine.. I’m inviting you… We may think we live in modern, advanced times. On many accounts, including the fact that we still solve conflicts through wars on this planet, we are not.  Menstruation is still a taboo in many cultures around the world, being associated with impurity, shame, and guilt for being a woman. Even though access to sanitary products has increased in many countries, education about menstruation as something to be embraced rather than ignored and medicalized is still lacking. The very ability to give life and reproduce the species that menstruation is a sign of becomes a sign of inferiority or, in other...
BitlyBlocking
When a mistaken attempt at censorship is called a bug. You will boycott Bitly, too, when you read this Jan Oberg August 28, 2023 Bitly.com is a New York-based company that creates short links, QR codes and link-in-bio pages. We’ve used it for years because it is practical to shorten long links on social media and elsewhere. However… Last week, when TFF (in English) and I (in Danish) published a rather critical article about Denmark’s decision to supply 19 F16s to Ukraine, Bitly immediately blocked all links to these two articles so that when people clicked to read them, what they got was the sign above! And not only that, Bitly did the same to all articles we’ve published back in time! People wrote in and asked what this meant – but soon found out that they could go to The Transnational and to Jan Oberg and read the articles...

Join Substack and TFF on Substack! Jan Oberg August 10, 2023 You’ve noticed that TFF is now active on three platform: • The foundation’s homepage: The Transnational (here) which is on WordPress (more about WP here); • “TFF 2 News” which is on Flipboard; • TFF on Substack: TFF • Transnational Foundation & Jan Oberg. It’s different kinds of audiences – readers and viewers – on each and, thus, only seldom do we publish the same post on two of them or all three. In this way, we reach more people than ever. Substack is an American online platform that provides publishing, payment, analytics, and design infrastructure to support subscription newsletters.[5] It allows writers to send digital newsletters directly to subscribers.[6][7] Founded in 2017, Substack is headquartered in San Francisco – according to Wikipedia. We’ve tested Substack, published energetically, and we are, after a couple of months, among the 15%...

Jan Oberg May 29, 2023 We’re delighted to announce that Kristin Christman has accepted TFF’s invitation to join us as TFF Associate. Read about Kristin in my article from March this year. Head over to her excellent YouTube Channel – and subscribe! – and then visit Countercurrents, which publishes all Christman’s articles as well as the texts she reads in her videos. Here is the latest – an 8-part critical/devastating analysis of the US National Defence Strategy 2022. We love Kristin’s passionate, unique and super-knowledgeable work for a better world and look forward to much synergy and cooperation with her in the years to come. We’re both struggling to prepare for the renaissance of peace that we believe will come when the US empire has declined further and we live in a more just, balanced and multipolar world – a humanity and peace-ruled international order…

Jan Oberg November 1, 2022 Why video and streaming? Western culture has become more and more image- and less text-oriented – particularly the type of longer, analytical texts to which TFF as a scholarly-based research and public education foundation has always produced. In 2003 when I returned from fact-finding missions in Iraq, I was surprised by the extent to which the world out there reacted to my photographs of people and places compared with the much more limited attention paid to my longer analytical texts. I’ve often had students who thought I must be a very old-fashioned professor when I suggested that they read a book of 300 pages. So, I learned to suggest instead that they saw a movie or watch some videos about the book’s subject – and, quite often it turned out, they then came back to me and asked whether they could borrow the book I...
